Europe 2021...Days 1 and 2...

We finally got to go back to Europe!  I booked our tickets back in February and we kept our fingers crossed that Europe would open to Americans.  We were so fortunate that the EU and Switzerland opened to Americans in June and we had our tickets for July, so off to Europe we went!

Unfortunately, our first flight was delayed due to a pilot calling in sick, which caused us to miss our flight to Zurich.  Instead of being sad about it, we enjoyed our night at the Hilton in DC and spent the following day seeing some of the monuments.

Making the best of our missed flight.  The wine helped!

The next morning, we took an Uber from Dulles to DC and walked around.  I was last in DC in 2006 and Ken has not been since high school.  It was fun to see the monuments together.

Looking at monuments around DC seems like the most American thing to do before flying to Europe.

The Washington Monument

The fountains of the WWII Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial.

Enjoying the bonus part of our vacation.

The Lincoln Memorial is my favorite.

President Lincoln.

Looking at the Washington Monument from the Lincoln Memorial reminds me of the scene in Forest Gump when Jenny runs into the pond.  Forest!!!

So happy to be spending time with him away from work stressors!

The Vietnam War Memorial Wall was quite a sight.  Seeing all of the names of all of the young soldiers that died, was pretty unbelievable.

The Capitol Building, which is Ken's favorite.

We had a late checkout from the hotel, which was very nice.  We went back to the airport hopeful that we would make it across the Atlantic Ocean this time!

United Club drinks for the win!

Our plane had a mechanical issue, so we delayed leaving.  The flight team assured us we would be leaving to fly to Zurich and got a new plane.  Too bad this issue did not happen the day prior so we would not have missed our flight!

Since we were last-minute add ons to the flight, our seats were not together.  It probably wasn't a terrible idea, that way we both could sleep.

Ken text me a hello picture from the other side of the plane.

My picture back to him.  Ready to be in Europe!!
