We woke up and told Mike and Katie farewell before they went to the airport to fly to Paris. We were staying in Verona one extra night so that we could do a little more exploring. I went for a quick run and got to see a little bit more of the city.
Running views
After my run, we enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and decided that we did not want to deal with another super hot day around Verona. We knew that Lake Garda was a short train ride away so we decided to put on our swimsuits and headed to Peschiera del Garda.
Once we arrived in Peschiera del Garda, we walked to the lake and found a beach club. We rented an umbrella and two chairs and decided it would be our home for the remainder of the day!
Our view at the beach club
Not a terrible spot to spend a 96 degree day.
We enjoyed drinks, lunch, and the view. We also had fun watching people take out the pedal boats.
Such a breezy day on Lake Garda
The water was such a beautiful color.
Ken took a nap
We were so happy that we left Verona for the day to enjoy cooler weather along the lake.
While we were relaxing around the lake, I checked my email and found that our train tickets for the following day were canceled due to the rail strike. We decided that we needed to get back to Verona to figure out the best plan of action. On the train back to Verona, we were discussing just getting on a train later in the night and getting to Naples. The train would not arrive until around 11:00 pm and we were thinking we could get a taxi to a hotel. A sweet lady heard us talking and told us she thought that doing that was a horrible idea. She told us the area around the train station in Naples is not the best area and she would worry about us that time of night. She said if anything, we could take the train to Rome and arrive late and be safe, but not Naples. We thanked her so much for her kindness and advice.
We got to the train station and were able to talk to someone who was able to rebook us on a different train to Rome and on to Naple for the morning. We were going to arrive later than planned, but we were happy that we would hopefully still be able to make it!
A celebratory Aperol Spritz to celebrate that we were able to buy tickets for a train that was scheduled to run in the morning!
