Europe 2022 Day 5: Lucerne, Switzerland

We had an early wake-up call to get the train to the airport. On our walk to the train station, we realized how truly dirty Amsterdam is. We are used to Munich and how early the streets are cleaned. There was trash everywhere.  I guess that goes along with the marijuana smell? Alas, we really did enjoy our time in Amsterdam.

We arrived at the Amsterdam airport and it was the busiest I have ever seen an airport before. The good news is we had plenty of time and it was very controlled chaos. We took a quick flight from Amsterdam to Zurich and then the train to Lucerne. It felt so nice to be back in this beautiful city. It had been since 2014 since we visited on our very first trip to Europe.

We arrived in Lucerne on what had to be one of the hottest days of the year. We checked into our hotel and decided we must go for refreshments immediately! We found a lovely place along the water.

Welcome to Switzerland! Not pictured is my pretzel sandwich.

Our view from our table. Lucerne is so gorgeous

Not pictured are the 90-degree temperatures!

Looking the in the other direction was the beautiful Chapel Bridge or Kappelbrucke in German.

After enjoying our drinks and late lunch, we crossed the river to the other side of town. We stopped for ice cream and enjoyed the views of Lucerne from across the river.

The view crossing the Chapel Bridge. Our hotel is the building with the Swiss flag on flying and our lunch spot is the last building on the left. The promenade in Lucerne is simply gorgeous.

We relaxed at our hotel for a while before going out for dessert and drinks. We ended up at the same spot as early since we knew they would have apple strudel.

Our first day in Lucerne was quite low-key, but a perfect first day in Switzerland. Any bit of traveling and changing locations is exhausting, not to mention when it includes travel by plane and train. We welcomed the change of pace in sleepy Lucerne after the late nights in Amsterdam!
