We woke up early on Saturday so that we could have an early breakfast and hit the trail to Hotel Obersteinberg. We decided to hike via Stechelberg this time instead of Gimmelwald as we did in 2017 and 2021. We were headed down the valley towards Stechelberg bright and early.
My favorite house in the valley on a bright sunny morning.
Starting the ascent above Stechelberg
It was such a beautiful morning with amazing views.
Ken was loving the hike. He borrowed a trekking pole from Hotel Staubacch
We arrived at Hotel Obersteinberg pretty early. We had a coke and decided that we would go ahead and hike up to Oberhornsee before coming back to Obersteinberg for lunch.

We made it to Oberhornsee
I was having a great time and was glad that we finally decided to hike up to the lake.
I was a little surprised at how small the lake was, but it was beautifully situated amongst the mountains.

Oberhornsee
The blue sky was trying to peek out while we were at Oberhornsee
This hike has so many views of many different waterfalls
Crossing the bridge to get back to Obersteinberg
Although it was not dangerous, the part with the railing up kind of scared me a bit. My fear of heights seems to get stronger each trip.
More beautiful scenery on our way back to Obersteinberg
Beer, wine, and soup are just around the corner
We made it back to Hotel Obersteinberg
Enjoying a glass of wine at a mountain hut just hits differently
I was hopeful that the clouds would clear and that we would get to see bluebird sky, but it did not happen.
Ken loves visiting Hotel Obersteinberg too. He also loved that the hike from Stechelberg was not nearly as steep as the hike from Gimmelwald.

We enjoyed lunch and our drinks and bought a few candy bars to have as snacks for the hike back to Lauterbrunnen.
Hotel Obersteinberg
This is always a must-do hike for us for sure.

Beautiful scenery on our way back to Stechelberg
Simply gorgeous
We made it back down the valley and stopped at Berggasthaus Trachsellauenen for a bottle of wine.
After enjoying our wine and live music at Trachsellauenen, we continued on towards Stechelberg and back to the Murren cable car where we stopped at Marji's. We sat and watched the BASE jumpers for a bit before grabbing our traditional to-go drinks to walk back to Lauterbrunnen.
One of the many BASE jumpers
Our favorite moment of the day. To-go drinks from Marji's and walking down the valley.
We made it back to Lauterbrunnen and stopped at Camping Jungfrau for dinner. Ken had rosti and I had fondue. It was such an amazing day.
My delicious fondue. It never gets old having it in Switzerland.
All in all, it was roughing an 18-mile hiking day. This hike is always my favorite to do in Lauterbrunnen. I definitely prefer the hike from Gimmelwald for the views of the valley, but any route to Obersteinberg is beautiful.
Such a fun day with Ken. Until next time Obersteinberg
