Germany and Italy 2023...Days 1 and 2: Traveling to Munich!

Our 2023 European adventure is in the books! We traveled on July 4th due to flights being so much less expensive and it is a free day off from work for both of us. We flew from Kansas City to Chicago and then on to Munich on United.

Vacation drinks to get vacation started!

We had a decent amount of time in Chicago and we spent the majority of it in the United Polaris lounge.

Long haul flight ready!

Watching the movie Book Club and enjoying a glass of champagne with a snack, absolutely lovely!

My dinner. This was probably my favorite meal I have ever had on a plane. I loved the noodles with peppers!

Ice cream sundaes are back on United flights!

So happy to enjoy my ice cream sundae!

We both slept for a few hours before landing in Munich. We made it through customs in a short amount of time and hopped on the S-Bahn towards the Marienplatz to drop our bags off at the hotel.

It was a beautiful and sunny morning and then suddenly it started pouring down rain. We had left our umbrellas at the hotel because it was sunny when we walked out! We were en route to the Viktualienmarkt and since we have been to Munich several times, we knew how to get around going between covered buildings to get there. We were not as soaked as we thought we would be, thank goodness!

Our first order of business was to order lunch and drinks!

Aperol Spritz, currywurst, foot-long sausage, and a one liter - the things dreams are made of!

While we were sitting under an umbrella, it started pouring again. We scooted in closer to the couple next to us that was also from the USA. They were from North Carolina and we enjoyed talking to them while we waited on the rain to stop. I had left my jacket at the hotel and was wearing my sleeveless jumpsuit and was freezing. A sweet German man told me he wanted to hug me to warm me up! This was the last time I remember being cold our entire vacation.

The rain eventually stopped and we walked back to our hotel and rested for a bit before making our way to Englischer Garten Park to enjoy the biergarten.

Ken loved his one liter in Englisch Garten Park

After we enjoyed our dinner in drinks, we walked around the park for a bit to take in the beautiful scenery. We never get tired of spending time in Englischer Garten Park.

It was a gorgeous evening with dancing and music in the Hofgarten

We were anxiously awaiting the next morning as our friends Mike and Katie were going to be arriving to join us in Munich!
