Europe 2021...Day 5: Heading to Zermatt...

We woke up on Tuesday to a beautiful morning.  There was part of me that wanted to stay a little longer in Lauterbrunnen, but we ultimately decided that we would make our way to Zermatt mid-morning as we had previously planned.  I, of course, went for a run down the valley.  It was so beautiful.

This is the view just outside of Camping Jungfrau.  It is hard to believe that Ken and I were hiking in those mountains the day prior.

My favorite house in all of Lauterbrunnen.  I am already so excited about our next visit!

The clouds were disappearing even more as I was out running, so I decided to go up to a viewpoint for a few pictures of the church.

Such a gorgeous view

Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

It is difficult to choose which one is my favorite

We had breakfast and prepared to say goodbye to Hotel Staubbach.  Our friend Adam was working and we had to get our traditional selfie with him.  We made plans to hike with him on our next visit!

Covid times selfie with Adam

Adam has always been so kind to us and we look forward to seeing him again soon!

We stopped off at the doctor's office to purchase some eye drops and Advil.  The funny thing about Switzerland is that you cannot buy these items at a store and you must purchase them from a doctor.  As we walked to the train station, I really wanted to turn around and stay for one more day.  It looked like it was going to be such a gorgeous day!

Such a gorgeous view looking back into town

This picture is for Miss Lotti.  She is named after Lauterbrunnen.  We plan to get this picture framed to hang up in her bedroom.

We took the train from Lauterbrunnen to Zermatt.  The last leg from Birg to Zermatt is kind of brutal.  Yours truly, slept most of the way.  We arrived in Zermatt and it was quite chilly!

We checked into our hotel, Hotel Bella Vista, which had a beautiful view of the Matterhorn, well I guess if the Matterhorn did not have clouds over the tip!

Our first order of business was an Aperol Spritz.  It was chilly, but beautiful out in the sunshine.

We enjoyed our drinks and decided to go wander around town.  Zermatt reminded us of a combination of Vail, CO and Chamonix, France.

The streets of Zermatt

Zermatt has a lot of shopping options

We found a spot to sit and enjoy drinks and dinner.  Ken got a traditional rosti and I ordered pasta.  We were both pretty tired from the train ride, so we decided to get a bottle of wine and enjoy it on our balcony from our room.

Travel days are always rough.  Being on the train for a few hours always makes me more tired than I am after hiking several miles.  We were grateful to be in a new area of Switzerland and looked forward to hiking the next morning!
